New Intoxalock Calibration Process | Press Release

Find Intoxalock ignition interlock press release information and the latest in DUI state laws and legislation.

DES MOINES, IA - Intoxalock, a leading ignition interlock provider, has introduced another industry first with the release of its patent-pending calibration device. With this new technology, Intoxalock is able to quickly and reliably perform calibrations, securely upload data logs and process repairs at service center locations, allowing more flexibility for the customer.

"Fighting drunk driving through the application of cutting-edge technologies is important not only for the public at large, but also for the customer who can get back on the road safely and legally," said Kerry Keller, Intoxalock Vice President, Compliance and Field Operations.

With the introduction of ignition interlock technologies, states with laws that require drunk driving offenders to pass a breathalyzer-type test before starting their cars have saved an estimated 915 lives between 2004 and 2013 – a 15 percent reduction in drunk driving-related deaths compared to states without legislation requiring DUI offenders to use "mandatory ignition interlocks."1

Here's how the new Intoxalock calibration device works

Ignition interlock devices, or car breathalyzers, are required to be returned to the service center every 30-180 days (based on individual state requirements) for calibration and data processing. Prior to the shift in technology, calibration was a more labor and time intensive process.

Intoxalock's new remote calibration technology not only simplifies and accelerates this process, but with the push of a button, the device:

  • performs automated, error-free calibrations, eliminating the opportunity for variation
  • securely uploads customer data logs for compliance purposes, ensuring customer privacy
  • assigns handheld devices to customers onsite
  • tracks inventory assigned to certified service centers
  • diagnoses handheld devices for any issues prior to assigning to a customer
  • creates a repair transaction for the handheld when appropriate
  • enables same-day service

This tamper-proof system puts more control in the hands of the auto service centers that have been certified to handle this procedure all while ensuring the integrity of the sensitive data within the devices.

And, with real-time reporting of the data logs to state offices, drivers are in a better position to more quickly move through the license restoration process.

"Previously, we managed all calibrations centrally out of three calibration centers in Washington, Iowa and Texas in order to ensure our industry leading calibration quality. But, with our latest technology, we're able to maintain our high standards for ignition interlock performance and data integrity, while creating a more seamless process for the customer and our organization," said Keller.

Service Centers and Customers Reaping the Benefits

Following several months of dissecting service center calibration processes and listening to customer feedback, Intoxalock feels they have landed on a solution that meets the needs of both groups as well as organizational goals.

The customer schedules the calibration directly with the service center and does not need to call Intoxalock for scheduling. This helps expedite the process.

Customers have more flexibility in scheduling the calibration of their device. In addition, they're able to save time and money; getting the job done in as little as ten minutes. Intoxalock's new technology allows for out-of-state calibrations for customers who have received previous approval.

The easy-to-operate system also provides service centers with the ability to track inventory, diagnose device issues as well as flag a replacement device onsite if necessary.
