Angel Rodriguez Wins Intoxalock Drunk Driving Prevention Scholarship
Every year, Intoxalock hosts a scholarship competition for current and incoming college students. A scholarship of $3,000 is awarded to the winning student for their creative Public Service Announcement.
To enter, all students must create an original video PSA of 30 to 60 seconds about the dangers of drunk driving, and how Intoxalock can prevent it. This year’s winner is Angel Rodriguez, a student at Northern Arizona University. Angel answered a few questions for us about his inspiration for the video as well as his future plans. What are you studying at school?
I’m majoring in Creative Media and Film, with a minor in Photography.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I aim to start freelancing video and photo work after college. This freelance work will help me build a full catalog of professional grade work that I can then use to make my way into actual production companies. My goal is to one day work in the big leagues with companies such as Lucasfilm, Warner Bros. Pictures, Paramount, and others.
How will this scholarship help with your academic goals?
This scholarship will help me advance my career by being able to purchase better video and photo gear. With this new gear, I will better advertise myself and hopefully start picking up multiple freelancing contracts.
Why did you choose to apply for this scholarship?
I feel that the issue of drunk driving is an unfortunate but prevalent one in society and this scholarship gave me the opportunity to not only shed light on the topic, but also create a narrative that could effectively engage the audience while also pulling at their heartstrings.

Intoxalock received many impressive entries this year from creative students all over the country. It was difficult to choose a winner, and we wanted to acknowledge the hard work and imagination of the runners-up as well.

How to Enter to Win Intoxalock’s Drunk Driving Scholarship
Entries for next year’s competition will be opening soon. Check for updates and contest guidelines. If you are already excited to enter, you can begin planning based on current guidelines.
To enter:
- Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited two or four-year college or university
- Applicants will create an original 30 to 60 second video PSA about the dangers of drunk driving and ways it can be prevented
- Once completed, applicants can submit their entry by uploading the video to YouTube as “unlisted” and providing the link on their application form
The scholarship winner is awarded $3,000. This prize can be used to cover tuition, housing, books, or any education-related expenses. Next year’s deadline will be December 31, 2023, 11:59 p.m. CST.
