What Is an Ignition Interlock Device?

This video helps explain the equipment that you will be using. Find out what an ignition interlock device is and how to use it. Ignition interlock devices are installed in a vehicle to prevent drinking and driving. The device requires the driver to submit a breath sample prior to being able to start the vehicle. If alcohol is detected, the vehicle will not start. Ignition interlock devices are used across the country and have been instrumental in cutting down on the number of drunk driving fatalities.

Using your vehicle is a little different when you have an IID installed. Learn how to start your vehicle when you have an Intoxalock ignition interlock installed.

      Random Retests

While you are driving, your device will require you to submit new breath samples at random intervals. This video helps you understand how to perform a random retest safely.

      Calibrations

A calibration of your device is required every few months for your IID. Learn more about what to do, where to go, and tools that will be helpful during this process.
